Happy Birthday, 'Angry Young Man'
We all know that Amitabh Bachchan epitomised the angry young man of Bollywood. Till now, no one has been able to come even close to his charisma and his screen presence.
Just like you, I am a huge fan of his Movies, not only those Movies, where he played the 'Angry young Man' character but also Movies such as 'Chupke Chupke', 'Satte pe Satta' and 'Cheeni Kum', where you could see that he has an incredible sense of timing, when it comes to humour.
Amitabh Bachchan has the talent to deliver his dialogues with such aplomb that even now, after many decades, we still remember them and repeat them any chance we get.
Here are some of his famous Movie dialogues:
1) "Haan, main sign karoonga, lekin pehle us aadmi ka sign leke aao, jisne mera baap ko chor kaha tha ; pehle us aadmi ka sign leke aao jisne meri maa ko gali deke naukri se nikal diya tha; pehle us aadmi ka sign leke aao jisne mere haath pe ye ('mera baap chor hai') leekh diya tha. Uske baad... Uske baad, mere bhai, tu jo kahega us par main sign karoonga." - Deewar
2) " Mai aaj bhi feke hue paise nahi uthata".- Deewar
3) "Aaj khush to bahot hoge tum"- Deewar
4) “Aaj mere paas bangla hain, gadi hai, bank balance hai... tumare paas kya hai.?”- Deewar
5) "Jis tarah gobhi ka phool phool hokar bhi phool nahi hota, waise hi gainde ka phool bhi phool hokar phool nahi hota."- Chupke Chupke

6) "Pura naam, Vijay Dinanath Chauhan. Baap ka naam, Dinanath Chauhan; Maa ka naam, Suhasini Chauhan, gaon Mandwa; umar chhattis saal".- Agneepath
7) "Jab tak baithne ko na kaha jaye sharafat se khade raho, Yeh police station hai tumhare baap ka ghar nahi."- Zanjeer
8) "Agar Kisine Hilne Ki Koshish Ki to Bhoon Ke Rakh Doonga".- Sholay
9) " Kya karu Mausi, mera to dil hi kuch aisa hai. Phir ye rishta pakka samjhu? "- Sholay
10) "Hum Jaha pe khade ho jaate hein , line wahin se shuru hoti hai." - Kaalia
11) "I can talk English, I can walk English, I can laugh English because English is a very phunny language." - Namak Halal
12) "Rishte me to hum tumhare baap lagte hain , naam hai Shahenshah." - Shahenshah
13) "Apun wo kutte ki doom hai, jo baara baras nalli ke andar daal ke, nalli tedi hoti, apun sidha nahin hota!"- Yaraana
14) "Jo mard hota hai, usse dard nahi hota" - Mard
15) "Agar apni maa ka doodh piya hai to saamne aa." -Laawaris
Happy Birthday, Amitabh Bachchan. Thank you for giving such amazing performances in your Movies. People might call 'Shahrukh Khan' the king of Bollywood, but for me you will always be that 'Angry Young Man' whose Movies are totally 'Paisa Vasool'.
For me, you will always be the one who fought injustice, spoke for the common man and taught me 'Ye Dosti, hum nahi todenge'. You serenaded your leading ladies with as much passion as you had, when you beat up gangsters and villains like 'Gabbar'. I admire your love for your 'Maa' and had a soft spot for you even when you played the anti hero. There is no one like you and I wish you many years of healthy and happy life.

Wow..onto your blog after such n such a long time. My last participation in BAT was long ago - missed yr blog all together thereafter.
ReplyDeleteGlad to be bk - great Ode to AMITABH - but for a man of his stature - we will always fall short of words.
Happy Bday to the Truly Humble Living Legend.
awesome post.. seriously.. a great collection of some really cool and really iconic dialogues in there
ReplyDeleteAwwww this is zoo cuuuteee :) I guess what SRK is to me, Amitabh is to you :)
ReplyDeleteI totally understand the sentiment behind this post! :)
I really love AB. The guy was the one we grew up on. His looks were just my type. I have loved his earlier movies. I loved him in Chupke Chupke and Yaarana. Have you seen Saudagar -- an offbeat role that is one of my favorites. I loved him in Kabhi Kabhi too. And, of course all the ones that you've mentioned. I dug his cameo in English Vinglish. He is so good in comedy, romance, action and so very humble and down to earth. He looks so much like my dad and that definitely adds to his charm in my eyes :). Lovely post with all the famous dialogues.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching him in Anand, in 1972 at Sterling (Bombay) I had predicted that "that tall lanky fellow in white is going to be the one to look out for"
ReplyDeleteYou must have spent a lot of time collecting and jotting down these hit dialogues.
ReplyDeleteDeewar and Sholay are the best! Javed Akthar or other dialogue writers might have penned up these lines, but the way Amitabh ji renders them with his baritone gives another edge and meaning to these iconic dialogues.
I love Amitabh Bachchan! I have met him at Chennai Airport and had taken his autograph... it was so heartwarming to see that, he looked at the person who gave him his/her diary, paper, boarding pass for his autograph, smiled and said a word or 2 and answered the questions of people (7-8 including me) and was not just mindlessly signing autographs and this was despite his people asking him to hurry-up. A thorough gentle man and so down to earth! A wonderful tribute to the Big man!! :)
ReplyDeleteA legend, no doubt. But of late he and his family put me off completely! However, that can't take aware from his fantastic acting and delivery of lines!
ReplyDeleteHey Viyoma..glad to see you back here :)
ReplyDeleteThanks you and I agree that there are no words which will justify his stature.
Thanks Roshan :) Yeah most of us remember these dialogues by heart, right?
ReplyDeleteThanks Akanksha :) Ah well Amitabh is in a different league altogether..you cannot compare him to anyone..
ReplyDeleteOh great another fan :) he was fantastic in chupke chupke. I have not seen Saudagar. I liked him a lot in 'Main Azaad hoon'. Another lesser known role. AB is fantastic in all roles. Thanks Rachna :)
ReplyDeleteWow I was not even born then :P Yes he was very good in Anand..
ReplyDeleteYes I did :) But most of the dialogues I already knew Aparna so it was not too much work. I agree Amitabh can just create magic with his acting and dialogue delivery...
ReplyDeleteYes he is very humble. That is something to learn. You are so lucky Shilpa..I am so JJJJJJ. I am glad you liked the post :)
ReplyDeleteOh that is media giving you an overdose. Amitabh is no doubt a fantastic actor and an orator. I love it when he speaks shuddh Hindi. Very few old actors can garner that much respect and adulation.
ReplyDeleteHe is a legend for sure , I am a fan of his for sure but I did not like a time when he was doing the same role in each .. he has come back after so many flops and is doing so very well ..
ReplyDeleteI do admire him as a actor for sure.. But I also know of a few personal things for which I dont like him as a human being.. but then i guess we all have our good and bad ..
on the whole he is worth admiring for sure ..
Ohh I love his voice - Absolutely love it - I remember at Khajuraho we went to watch the Hindi light and sound show simply because he was doing the narration ! And you must listen to him narrating his fathers poems. Simply enthralling to hear him recite them !
ReplyDeleteYeah I too have skipped many of his movies like Shehenshah and the atrocious ones he did as his comeback. As for his personal life, I hardly know anything about him and most of them are rumours.
ReplyDeleteHe is a fine actor and that is what makes him a legend :)
Oh yes his lovely Baritone..I have heard Madhushala narrated by Amitabh. Simply superb :)
ReplyDeleteBada mazaa aaya!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this!!
Thats an iconic list! The guy's like the phoenix - risen from ashes - more than once! Really enjoyed reading this.
ReplyDeleteThanks Deepak :) I am glad you had fun reading the post..
ReplyDeleteOh yes..totally agree with the phoenix bit. I am glad you liked the list cause I had fun making it :)
ReplyDeleteMy "almost" favoruite list :)
